Black & Decker G48TD Waffle Maker Review

Well, at a first glance the Black and Decker waffle maker really does look like it's a quality and interesting unit. I mean, according to the description of this G48TD model it's not only a waffle baker, but it can also be used as an electric grill or an electric griddle. The company calls it a three-in-one appliance because of the reason stated in the previous sentence, therefore making it look like a versatile appliance that is of high quality.
Black & Decker G48TD Waffle MakerIn addition, the Black & Decker G48tD waffle baker doesn't take up a lot of room (unlike many other griddles and grills that will make it hard on you if you don't have a big cabinet or a place to store them) since it's not very large when it's folded. On the other hand, the Black and Decker waffle maker can be used to cook or grill enough food for a couple of people when it's used as a grill or a griddle. And if that's not enough then the price of this kitchen appliance is also not very expensive, but not very cheap either.
In the first few times you use the Black and Decker waffle maker you might notice that the results that you get are decent and that the nonstick surface does a pretty good job. It's really not hard to clean the Black & Decker G48tD waffle baker since the pancakes, waffles, eggs and other foods won't really stick to it in its first uses. So, you notice that this waffle baker of the Black & Decker company is not that bad – it cooks the food well, although it's not perfect, it looks like it could last for some time and it relatively easy to clean because of the nonstick cooking surface.
However, after a couple of uses I started to see that the nonstick has started to peel off, not something which would make you happy. Now, if you are not familiar with nonstick cookware, you should know that it's believed to be bad for our health to use a nonstick appliance that its surface was damaged or just wore off. So, you basically don't have a lot to do with the Black and Decker waffle maker if its nonstick surface is damage.
According to what I understood, it's not uncommon for the surface of the Black & Decker G48tD waffle baker to peel off. So the company should take some serious measures before this appliance should be sold, since it doesn't contribute to the popularity and reputation of this big company. There is no doubt that there are better options in the market other than the Black & Decker waffle maker, and always remember to look for information before you buy anything.
Other than the Black & Decker waffle iron there are other interesting appliances that may very well deserve your attention, like the Cuisinart 5-in-1 Griddler GR-4N that I already wrote about in the previous post.

I generally like the products of the Black and Decker company, yet I am still not sure whether I should buy the Black and Decker waffle iron - If there are other waffle makers out there then I hope to find them in the near future.

  2. I have owned this waffle maker for approx. 3 years and my non-stick coating is not damaged at all. I use plastic fork to remove the cooked waffles and I do not recall ever having used soap on the non-stick inside. It stays perfectly seasoned on its own after I oiled it once in the beginning I think. I only use it about once every month or two tho. I love it. It cost me $50.
